Every Man Has 2 Fantasies
Where it came from

Two panels under the heading "Every man has 2 fantasies." On the left, an epic painting of armored soldiers charging into a hopeless battle, captioned with a speech about holding the line and dying with honor for something greater. On the right, an anime boy being held by a girl who whispers that he doesn't need to act strong anymore, he can let it all out, he's a good boy.
The joke is that both panels are painfully accurate and they're about the same guy. He wants to die gloriously in a last stand, and he also wants someone to pat his head and tell him he did enough. There's no contradiction. That's just the male psyche, apparently.
It quickly became a template. People swap in their own pair of opposites: dying in a Viking raid vs. being tucked in, conquering Rome vs. a warm bowl of soup. The format works best when the second fantasy is extremely small and soft compared to the first.
