Expanding Brain

Where it came from
Started on 4chan in early 2017 as a four-panel image showing a brain getting progressively more "enlightened". The later panels added cosmic imagery — glowing brains, galaxy brains, the brain becoming the universe.
Four (or more) panels of a brain, each one more absurdly transcendent than the last. Panel one is a normal brain. Panel four is a brain made of pure starlight shooting lasers into the void. You label each panel with an increasingly "galaxy-brained" take on the same topic — the twist being that the most enlightened panel is usually the dumbest or most unhinged option.
The humor is ironic escalation. "Thinking pineapple belongs on pizza" → "Thinking pineapple doesn't belong on pizza" → "Thinking the concept of pizza is a social construct" → "Thinking". The meme pretends ascending intelligence but actually tracks ascending stupidity, and that's the whole joke.
Got overused hard in 2018, faded a bit, but still has life in it — especially for ironic philosophy and programming discourse. "Galaxy brain" became a standalone phrase people use in conversation now.
