Good Guy Greg

Where it came from
A 2011 advice animal built on a cropped photo of a smiling guy mid-exhale on a joint. He arrived as the wholesome mirror image of Scumbag Steve, who showed up around the same time.
A grinning dude blows out a cloud of smoke against a rainbow-colored background, and the caption walks you through some small act of basic human decency. "Borrows your lighter / gives it back." "Sees you typing / waits to text." The whole bit is that Greg is the guy who quietly does the considerate thing nobody would've blamed him for skipping. Top line sets up the situation, bottom line is him being a genuinely good roommate to the world.
He only makes sense as the opposite of Scumbag Steve, the snapback-wearing jerk who launched the same year. Steve eats your leftovers and takes credit for your work; Greg returns what he borrows and chips in for gas. Reddit ran the two side by side constantly, and for a stretch in 2011 and 2012 you couldn't scroll an advice-animal feed without hitting one or the other. The real guy in the photo eventually got identified and did a few interviews about being internet-famous for looking nice.
It's dead. Advice animals as a whole got buried when image macros gave way to screenshots and reaction pics, and Greg went down with the ship. Nobody's making these in 2026 except to be deliberately retro. He's a fossil from the Impact-font era, fondly remembered and never posted.
