Lorenzo Pushing Child
Where it came from
A scene from Pixar's Luca (June 2021) in which Luca's dad, Lorenzo, mistakes a random kid for his son and tosses him into the water. A screenshot hit Tumblr on July 6, 2021 with the caption "fuck them kids" and spread to /r/memes and /r/dankmemes days later.
A short, mustached dad in a sailor cap stands on a stone seawall, arms flung out mid-follow-through, while a small child flies off the edge toward the water. Behind him, his wife watches with mild interest. Nobody seems alarmed. That kid is simply gone now.
In the movie, Lorenzo is a sea monster disguised as a human, and he's dunking kids in the water to see which one turns out to be his son. Out of context it looks like a man yeeting a stranger's child into the sea with zero hesitation, and that is how everyone uses it.
You label the dad as whoever's doing the discarding and the kid as whatever's getting discarded. Me and my New Year's resolutions. Spartans and their weaker babies, which became its own whole genre. Any time something gets thrown away fast, coldly and without a second look, Lorenzo is there with his arms out.
