NPC Streaming
Where it came from
A TikTok LIVE trend where streamers act like video-game NPCs, repeating the same phrases and "idle animations" and only reacting when viewers send paid gifts. Popularized through 2022–23, notably by PinkyDoll.
Somewhere along the way, people figured out you could make real money on TikTok LIVE by pretending to be a video-game NPC. Bounce gently in place. Wait. Someone sends a virtual ice cream? "Ice cream so good." Someone sends a rose? Same three canned phrases, same frozen smile, forever.
PinkyDoll turned "ice cream so good" and "gang gang" into an entire income stream, and the whole thing broke people's brains — half the internet couldn't tell if it was genius, dystopian, or both. Watching an adult respond to gifts with robotic idle-animation energy is deeply uncanny and completely hypnotic.
It's basically what happens when the attention economy and a Skinner box have a baby on livestream. Gang gang.
