Sus Dog
Where it came from
Dogs giving side-eye have been reaction images since around 2010, tracing back to a shifty-eyed dog at the end of a 1999 Simpsons episode. The modern 'sus' version blew up in January 2021, when a Reddit post pointed out a dog that looked like an Among Us impostor and everyone started pairing dog photos with the Among Us theme.
It's a dog looking at you like it knows what you did. Squinted eyes, head slightly turned, the specific facial expression of an animal running an internal investigation. Dogs cannot actually be suspicious of anything more complex than whether you're hiding cheese, which is what makes the reads people project onto them funny.
Among Us is what turned it from a generic reaction image into a named format. Once "sus" was in everyone's vocabulary in 2021, every squinting dog photo became evidence and the theme song became the required audio. A YouTube video literally titled "sus dog" cleared two million views in six months doing exactly that and nothing else.
It's still in heavy rotation as a reaction — reply it to anyone whose story doesn't add up. The Among Us layer has faded a lot since 2021, but the underlying dog is doing fine. Suspicious dogs are eternal.
