Verity (Minecraft ARG)
Where it came from
YouTuber ThatMob premiered the Minecraft horror series Verity on May 30, 2026, presented as found footage of a player installing an AI helper mod. The first video passed 22 million views in two months, and fan songs and memes flooded in through July and August 2026.
Verity is a yellow ball with a smiley face. In ThatMob's Minecraft series, she's an AI assistant mod: friendly, helpful, a little too eager. You install her, she helps you mine. Then she starts knowing things she shouldn't, the smile stays exactly the same, and things get violent. If you've ever had a smart speaker answer a question you didn't ask, you get the vibe.
The found-footage setup made it feel like an ARG, and kids ate it up. HorrorSkunx dropped a Verity song in July 2026 that pulled over 12 million views in a month, and fan art, edits, and "Verity is watching" jokes followed. The yellow smiley became shorthand for anything that's helpful in a creepy way, like an app that says "we noticed you've been sad lately."
It also got a backlash. A Reddit post in July calling it generic content-farm horror got over 1,300 upvotes, with people pointing out that the custom models look like clickbait thumbnails. Both camps keep posting about it, which means it's very much still alive for now.
