Watermelon River
Where it came from
Footage of farmers in Asia floating their watermelon harvest down a canal, which first made the rounds on Reddit, Imgur and TikTok around September 2022. It turned into a proper meme in early 2024 after Barstool Sports reposted it on February 1 and TikTokers paired it with the "smoke weed every day" line from Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's "The Next Episode."
Picture a narrow canal completely packed with watermelons, hundreds of them, bobbing along in a slow green traffic jam while farmers guide them downstream. It's a real way of moving fruit, it's weirdly calming, and it looks like a glitch in a farming sim.
In 2024 people decided the only correct soundtrack was Snoop Dogg drawling "smoke weed every day" while the melons drift past. That pairing is the meme. From there it got rebuilt in Roblox, Minecraft and anything else with a water physics engine, and the watermelons started floating through other videos where they absolutely did not belong.
The joke is mostly vibes. There's something deeply funny about a river that is 90% fruit, moving at the speed of a lazy Sunday, and everyone involved acting like this is normal (because for them, it is).
