From WandaVision (2021), where Kathryn Hahn's nosy neighbor Agnes throws an enormous, unsubtle wink 40 seconds into the trailer. Twitter never let it go.
Agnes winks like she's being paid per millimeter of eyelid travel. It is not a subtle wink. It is the wink of someone who knows exactly what's going on and wants you to know that she knows, and honestly wants everyone in a three-mile radius to know too.
That's why it became the go-to reaction for the "well-known open secret." Somebody says "no comment" about the thing everyone already knows? Agnes wink. A brand pretends its obvious lie is true? Agnes wink. It's the visual version of saying "suuure" while nodding way too hard.
The character turned out to be Agatha Harkness, which the internet had already guessed, which is extremely on-brand for a meme about knowing the thing you're not supposed to know yet.
