Ew, Brother, Ew! What's That?
Where it came from
From a lecture by Australian Muslim speaker Mohamed Hoblos, uploaded to YouTube on December 20, 2019, where he recoils and says "Ew, brother, ew! What's that? What's that, brother?" The clip went viral on X and TikTok in January 2024.
A bearded man in a white kufi and white robe, mid-lecture, scrunches his whole face up like someone just handed him a warm tuna sandwich in a hot car. "Ew, brother, ew! What's that? What's that, brother?" The disgust is total and immediate, and the repeated "brother" makes it sound like he's personally disappointed in you specifically.
Around January 2024 people found the clip and started pointing it at everything. NFL players' outfits, cursed food combinations, someone's code, your friend's new haircut. On TikTok it turned into a sound where people show you something mildly horrifying and let him react for them.
It's the ideal reply for when something isn't really offensive, just deeply wrong. Pineapple on a hot dog. Socks with sandals. A man who microwaves fish at the office. Ew, brother.
