Send Him 2-3 Years Dagestan and Forget
Where it came from
From a Daniel Cormier YouTube interview with UFC champion Islam Makhachev posted May 30, 2024, where Makhachev says, "If you want your son high-level wrestling, send him 2-3 years Dagestan and forget." TikTok picked it up in January 2025 and it kept snowballing into 2026.
Islam Makhachev, deadpan as a tax form, offers parenting advice: ship your kid off to Dagestan for two or three years and simply stop thinking about him. No check-ins. No visits. He'll come back a wrestler. The "and forget" is doing most of the work here, and the broken-English delivery makes it sound like a product warranty.
The standard format plays a clip of some kid (or grown man) being soft, dramatic or just a bit too into his skincare routine, then cuts to Makhachev prescribing the cure. Then came the before-and-after parodies where a scrawny guy disappears into the mountains and returns with a beard and cauliflower ears, plus AI Pixar trailers and parents captioning videos of their newborns with "how I explain to my wife we need to send him 2-3 years Dagestan."
People say "Dagastan" or just "Dagestan" as shorthand now. Your cousin can't change a tire? Dagestan. Friend cried at a Pixar movie? Dagestan. A January 2026 version pulled over 60 million views in three weeks, so the mountains are apparently still accepting applications.
